Job Description

An established telecommunications and technology solution provideris seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Engineer to join their Network Operations team.

Responsibilities: 
  • Advanced Support & Resolution: Provide expert-level support and lead the diagnosis/resolution of complex, critical network, and voice connectivity issues (routers, switches, firewalls, APNs, wireless) in alignment with SLAs.

  • Configuration & Maintenance: Own the full lifecycle management of core network systems, including configuration, implementation, upgrades, patching, and change management following ITIL best practices.

  • Performance & Optimisation: Proactively monitor, analyse, and optimise performance in high-availability, carrier-grade networks using advanced tools.

  • Architecture & Strategy: Provide input to technical strategy, market evolution, and architecture oversight. Engage with clients and vendors to translate requirements into effective network solutions.

  • Escalation & Leadership: Act as a senior escalation point, provide mentorship to junior engineers, and participate in an on-call rotation for critical incident response and service restoration.

  • Compliance & Documentation: Ensure network operations adhere to regulatory compliance (ICASA, POPIA, etc.) and security best practices. Produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation and SOPs.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Networking Expertise: Advanced proficiency in routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, STP).

  • Security Acumen: Strong expertise in network security principles, including firewall design, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and threat mitigation.

  • Hands-on Experience: Proven experience with carrier-grade hardware (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet) and troubleshooting complex multi-technology environments (IP, voice, cloud, SD-WAN, hybrid networks).

  • Leadership & Communication: Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor staff, and translate technical solutions into clear business impact for stakeholders.

  • Personal Attributes: Self-driven, focused on continuous improvement, exceptional problem analysis, adaptability, and attention to detail. Basic scripting skills are a plus.

  • Qualifications (Advantageous)

    • CCNP (Cisco Certified Network Professional) or higher (CCIE preferred)

    • JNCIA / JNCIP (Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate/Professional)

    • ITIL Foundation or equivalent

    • Additional certifications in security (CISSP, Fortinet NSE) or cloud networking.
